About Us

Music education should build musicians.
Not just teach songs.

Mela Music School is a music education organisation built on the belief that learning music should be accessible enough to fit into everyday life, yet structured enough to develop a lasting skill.

For over 11 years, Mela has helped 5,000+ students learn, practise, perform and progress across a wide range of Indian and Western musical disciplines.

OUR STORY

mela music school learn music in north bangalore.png

We saw a gap in music education. So we built what was missing.

When Mela began, learning music largely meant choosing between two very different paths.

At one end were casual hobby classes—accessible and flexible, but often without the structure and continuity needed to develop lasting musical ability.

At the other were intensive formal programmes designed for students pursuing music seriously, demanding a level of commitment that did not suit every learner. There was very little in between.

Mela was created to build that middle path: music education serious enough to develop real skill, but flexible enough to remain part of everyday life.

Our founder, Karishma, an IIM Bangalore alumna, came to music education after a career building and scaling businesses across hospitality, F&B, FMCG and retail jewellery. She brought a different perspective to an industry traditionally positioned as either a casual hobby or a professional pursuit.

Her idea was simple:

Combine the accessibility of learning music for enjoyment with the structure, expertise and attention to detail of serious music education.

That idea became Mela.

THE MELA APPROACH

Because learning music is more than learning to play. At Mela, we think of music education as a journey.

LEARN
Build strong fundamentals, technique and musical understanding.

PROGRESS
Build skills through clear, structured development.

PERFORM
Take learning beyond the classroom and onto the stage.

GROW
Develop a skill that stays with you for life. This is what turns music lessons into music education.

PERFORMANCE

Music should be experienced, not just learned.

Performance is an integral part of the Mela experience.

Through our Annual Mega Concert and 5–6 recitals each year, students have regular opportunities to perform, apply what they have learned and build confidence on stage.

Performance teaches students to prepare, practise, listen, collaborate, manage nerves and ultimately share their music with confidence.

RECOGNISED PATHWAYS

From learning for enjoyment to learning with purpose.

Students who want formal milestones can prepare for recognised examinations and certifications including:

Trinity College London · ABRSM · Rockschool · London College of Music · Sangeeta

These pathways provide clear goals and recognised benchmarks as students progress.

MELA FOR SCHOOLS -  Bringing structured music education into schools.

Mela partners with schools to design and manage structured music programmes.

We bring together the elements required to build a consistent programme:

Curriculum — Age-appropriate learning pathways

Faculty — Trained music educators
Programme Management — Scheduling and execution with instruments
Assessment — Tracking student learning and progress
Performance — Recitals and performance opportunities

Schools get more than individual music classes. They get a complete music education programme.

ONE PHILOSOPHY. TWO WAYS TO LEARN.

Whether students learn at a Mela centre or through one of our school programmes, the goal remains the same: structured music education that develops skill, confidence and lasting musical ability.

MUSIC THAT STAYS WITH YOU

We don't just want students to learn music. We want music to stay with them.

Whether they are playing their first notes, preparing for an examination or stepping onto a stage, we want every student to develop skills and confidence they can carry forward.
